Section Heading

Not too big, not too small. Just right.

Not too big and not too small, the Heli Pro 24L falls right in the Goldilocks zone of backcountry packs. This seek-and-destroy powder package is big enough, but certainly not too big. Purpose-built snow tool sleeves keep shovel and probe at the ready, a large fleece-lined goggle pocket and deployable helmet carry neatly stow essentials on the go, and a hydration sleeve doubles as laptop storage off the mountain.

If your Dakine bag gets dirty, we recommend hand washing with mild soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash), cold water and a soft bristle brush. If hand washing is not going to do the trick, use a front loader washing machine. To ensure your backpack doesn't get tangled, place inside a pillowcase or mesh bag before washing. Always use cold water, mild soap and run on a gentle cycle. Never bleach your pack. Hang to dry in a warm but shady place, ensuring both inside and out are dry before storing.

Great Pack

Bought this for ski trip to Argentina involving off-piste hikes and it was great. Just the right size, good Hydration pack and ski holders. Pockets are better design than other packs and the helmet holder is nice.

Amazing Pack

This backpack is not only the perfect size but includes lots of nice features. It is perfect for hiking to terrain with your skis on your back or an all day pack. Also great for a general hiking pack in the summer. Overall great pack, color, and material.

Stellar Backpack!

My husband had his previous HeliPro for eight years and was sad to see it falling apart. He is thrilled with this new backpack and very pleased with the size and functionality.

Nice but lacks a few key features

I bought this to replace a Pro II that was finally showing signs of wear after 10+ years and a few hundred days of backcountry use. The Heli Pro fits well, it's comfortable when riding and skinning and carries the essentials for most day tours, but gets a bit tight with crampons, extra layer, and food for bigger days. My main gripes are that there is no good way to carry a splitboard. Dakine claims the pack can carry a snowboard horizontally, but there is clearly no way to do that unless you just put it through the shoulder straps and let it flop around, as can be done with any pack. The fixed lower straps on the side, which you would use for an A-frame, are just a bit too small to slide my board halves through. The diagonal carry doesn't really secure a splitboard that well, and makes the helmet carry useless, with no good way to attach it without it flopping around. The vertical carry works ok, though the straps seem flimsy, but again, need to figure out what to do with the helmet. When booting up a steep couloir, horizontal carry is preferred to keep the board away from your feet. If going from skinning to booting and back again, it's easiest to just A-frame it. Not having these options is crucial. I also miss having a pocket on the hip belt, had to find a phone pouch that I could attach. It's a shame they can't make a new Pro II with a helmet carry.

Great Bag - A Few Annoying Issues

Overall this is a great bag. I was looking for a bag that I could use for some light resort touring, was not too big for a resort day and could help me carry my kids skis. This checks all those boxes really well. I have two gripes with this bag. The first and most significant is the hydration hose routing. The entry point from the shoulder strap to the body of the bag is so miniscule that I nearly sent the bag back because I thought it was sewn over. When I did find the opening, I ended up having to pop some of the seams just to get the end of the hose to fit through. It is incredibly frustrating to take the hose in and out of this bag. The opening should be twice as large as it actually is. It is so frustrating that I considered just giving up on the bag all together. The second issue is that the buckles that hold the skis for the a-frame hold position loosen with the slightest amount of pressure against them. When I put my kids skis on the sides of the bag and pick the bag up, the top straps immediately loosen all the way up because the buckles don't hold well. Pretty annoying but not the end of the world. Also worth noting, I purchased this bag and the Poacher 22 to see which fit my needs best. The Poacher feature set is amazing and it is a great bag, but it ended up being a little too much bag for my needs, it was taller, heavier and the waist strap was bulkier. The Heli Pro is much better as an a tour/resort bag in my opinion.

Perfect Bag for the Mountain

I bought the Ikon version of this bag and absolutely love it. Not only does it store everything I need for a day on the slopes (extra layer, drinks, snacks, goggle lenses, etc.) but it's low profile makes it wearable on lifts without feeling like I'm going to fall off. The bag came in especially handy when my fiance and I needed to hike from our Airbnb to the lodge of our local mountain. There was no parking at the lodge, and the wait to get on a shuttle from spillover parking to the mountain was an hour long! Rather than wait, we loaded up her ski's and my snowboard (the bag can hold one of each with its A frame and board straps) and walked the mile from where we were staying to the lodge. I don't want to imaging how much the walk would have sucked carrying the gear in our hands. Instead, my hands were freed up so I could enjoy a beer on our walk to the mountain.

I recently received this as a gift. I am really struggling to find the hole in the bag for the hydration pack hose to run through the strap. It appears to be fully stitched the entire way. Can you please let me know if I am looking in the wrong place or what specifically to look for? Could there have been an error in the manufacturing process that resulted in the hole being stitched over? Obviously a key feature that I’d like to be able to use. Thanks.

I can't figure out how to route the hydration bladder hose from the sleeve in the back pocket out of the pack. There does not seem to be any exit holes. I see what looks like an insulated sleeve in one of the shoulder straps, with a zipper for access and the strap seems to have space to run the hose, but there is not opening in the top to run the hose into the back pocket. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help.

You are on the right track. The easiest way to find the routing is to go through the shoulder strap with the insulated sleeve. It can be tricky, but it's there! If you have further questions, please reach out to store@dakine.com!

How large of a hydration bladder should be used with this back pack?

I would suggest 2L! https://www.dakine.com/products/replacement-reservoir-2l?variant=32660751974480

The list of features includes “pencil organizer/interior zippered pocket”. Um… Where? A friend has a Mission 25L pack which DOES have this organizer/pocket, and so I assumed — after reading the list of features — that the Heli Pro 24 would have the same or something similar, but there’s nothing of the kind. Feeling deceived.
